German firm adopts catalytic hydrogen heating system

Start-up hydrogen heating technology company HYTING has announced industrial equipment supplier Flusys GmbH as its first customer.

Installation and commissioning will take place early 2025, in Flusys’ newly-established production facility in Offenbach, Germany. The 1,000 cubic-metre production space will be heated using hydrogen from a nearby supplier.

A firm believer in the future of hydrogen, Flusys was open to innovations in this fast-growing sector and to be positioned as an early adopter of the latest developments of safe, energy-efficient, and sustainable heating solutions.

Tim Hannig, founder and managing director of HYTING, said: “We are certain hydrogen will help decarbonise the heating sector. By radically simplifying the use of hydrogen’s thermal energy we developed an innovative hydrogen-fuelled heating technology that is simple, safe, efficient, and clean and that will lead the way. We’re proud that Flusys has chosen us, and we look forward to commissioning our technology at the Offenbach facility.”

Carsten Neutzer, chief executive of Flusys said: “We are delighted to be a lighthouse customer of HYTING. The technology immediately fascinated and excited us. We hope to be able to give a boost to this new CO2-free technology.”

HYTING has developed a forced-air heating system (patents-pending) that uses a catalytic process to turn hydrogen and oxygen from air into heat and which does not produce any CO2, NOx, or particulate emissions – the only by-product is water. Furthermore, it does not use flammable concentrations of hydrogen at any operating point.

The technology uses many proven, existing components from the heating and automotive industries. It’s also modular and highly scalable in design, with outputs of 10-300 kW, enabling it to be configured for a wide range of different heating applications, including industrial, commercial, and residential buildings – both new-builds and retrofits, agricultural greenhouses, portable heating units, and heating systems for commercial vehicles.
