President supports non compliance campaign

HVCA president Graham Manly has underlined the Association's enthusiastic backing for the Non Compliance Costs campaign which was launched by the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE) in April.
Manly stressed that non-compliance with legislation designed to address the twin challenges of sustainability and carbon reduction was becoming a culture - and was already jeopardising the nation's ability to meet its long-term environmental targets.

'I am delighted, therefore, to have had the opportunity to pledge full HVCA support for the Non-Compliance Costs campaign against widespread flouting of the Energy Performance in Buildings and the F-gas regulations,' the president added.

The campaign - which had its official launch during the Sustainabilitylive event at the National Exhibition Centre, Birmingham - seeks to highlight the true cost of non-compliance, in terms of environmental damage, carbon emissions and lost opportunities for energy conservation.

'It also sets out three simple steps which, if taken, could lead to a very significant improvement in the current situation,' said Manly.

'I just hope that our new government - and, in particular, Vince Cable and Chris Huhne, who have the responsibility for taking the appropriate action - are listening.'

Manly was speaking at the Annual General Meetings and Conference of the HVCA specialist groups, which was held at Trinity House in the City of London.

The Non Compliance Costs campaign is also being supported by BRE Global, the British Institute of Facilities Management and the Green Building Council.
