CIBSE approved CPD on the role prefabricated systems in delivering sustainability

Polypipe Building Services has launched a new CPD (Continuous Professional Development) presentation entitled ‘Sustainable Design Methodology’. The presentation provides specifiers, engineers and contractors with best practice advice on the role prefabricated drainage and water supply systems can play in delivering a sustainable built environment.

Gavin Robinson delivers new CIBSE approved CPD

Approved by the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE), the CPD has been developed by Gavin Robinson, National Business Development Manager at Polypipe Building Services. It begins by detailing how the established Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DfMA) process correlates to the RIBA plan of work and the relevance this has to minimising environmental impact from the very start of projects.

Information is then given on the options for designing and installing drainage and supply systems, and how materials choices -  in terms of traditional loose components versus prefabricated systems, can make a significant difference to the cost, timeliness and sustainability of projects. Comparisons between the different approaches demonstrate how prefabricated systems can offer significant savings in labour, time and cost, while reducing waste material and vehicle movements to, from and around site.

This is supported by detailed schematics and drawings to illustrate common problems and solutions, helping those taking the CPD to build in-depth knowledge on where prefabricated systems can be used for maximum benefit.

Speaking about the new CPD, Gavin Robinson explained: “We’re very pleased to offer this new CPD both online and at industry events. Sustainability is of course a critical consideration for the industry, and it’s a topic that’s central to both our business here at Polypipe Building Services and across our parent group, Genuit. We all believe it shouldn’t be an after-thought.”

“We also believe that supporting the wider industry is key, so it’s very pleasing to be able to offer information on the significant benefits prefabricated drainage and water supply systems can offer. CIBSE approval means specifiers, engineers and contractors can be confident the presentation’s content has been verified and that it can support them on their own sustainability missions.”
