Inside job -Prisoners are fans of installation work

Training the installers of the future is underway in all corners of the UK including HMP Wolds -a category C prison which has been supplied with Polypipe fans to run an electrical course.
Ventilation manufacturer Polypipe Ventilation has donated fans and FireBrake electrical conduit to HMP Wolds, in East Yorkshire where prisoners are being taught vocational subjects, including electrical skills.

Home to 395 adult men, the prison aims to educate inmates to prepare them for re-integration into mainstream society.

Chris Pittaway, electrical tutor at HMP Wolds, said: 'At HMP Wolds we try and give prisoners real work experience which reflects the ethics required in business. This provides opportunities for prisoners to gain national vocational qualifications that assist prisoners to find work on their release. We started the training scheme a few years ago and have been looking for manufacturers' donations'.

Pittaway added: 'With the generous donations of the fans and conduit supplied by Polypipe Ventilation, we are able to achieve this. It makes a huge difference to the training to be able to use actual products.'

In addition to the fans, Polypipe supplied its FireBrake Electrical Conduit which has been designed for preventing the spread of fire through electrical wiring systems.

I cannot believe what I have just read....Prisoners being given training to become electricians, it's a disgrace!

What have they done to deserve this privilage?

I am the manager of an electrical contractor who recieves 2-3 letters a week from young lads wanting a trade.

The government should put their money and effort into funding proper apprenticeships for these lads..not the wasters inside who don't deserve this privilage. How many when out will stick at it? Not very many. Just about sums this country up I`m afraid.
