Meet the judges
While the finalists are now public, the decisions are not yet set in stone. A panel of judges, who collectively boast an impressive history of expertise and experience in the HVAC sector, will review each entry to determine the rightful winners in each category.

This year’s judging panel is made up of the following industry figures:
• Martyn Cooper, commercial manager, FETA
Martyn joined FETA in May 2015 after a 37-year career in the plastics and chemical industries working in various departments including development, sales and marketing as well as a number of commercial roles. He has experience in the sales and marketing of refrigerants and as part of his current position in FETA he manages the Heat Pump Association, and several groups in the refrigeration, HEVAC and chimney associations across FETA.
• Steve McConnell, director of ICOM
Steve has spent the whole of his working life in the plumbing and heating industry, starting as an apprentice plumber in 1984. He eventually specialised as a service engineer with a major UK commercial boiler manufacturer before focusing on overseeing the product management and technical support function for another leading boiler and water heater manufacturer. In this role Steve served on BSI and ICOM committees. In November 2020 Steve was appointed director of the Industrial & Commercial Heating Equipment Association (ICOM) which is a member organisation working to engage in all aspects of heating related activities.
• Duncan Sibbald, head of certification, BESA
Duncan has decades of experience running ventilation firms and been instrumental in the development of BESA’s Vent Hygiene Elite scheme. The scheme allows businesses to self-certify their specialist hygiene works to the required industry TR19® Specification and all current industry legislation. Duncan also heads up SKILLcard, the industry-recognised card issuing and personnel registration scheme for people working in the mechanical sector of the building engineering services industry throughout the UK. He has a successful record of working closely with facilities and building managers across a wide range of industries, helping them to operate to the highest standards.
• Stewart Clements, director of the HHIC
Stewart has been involved with the heating and plumbing industry for 30 years. As director of the HHIC, he takes responsibility for representing the whole of the domestic heating market in the UK. The HHIC informs members on relevant policy issues and developments and responds to consultations on their behalf.
• TJ Ducan-Moir, management consultant with Business Glu
With 30 years’ experience in HVAC and construction TJ established her business; Business Glu, at the beginning of lockdown and has since been awarded an MBE for her services to Female Entrepreneurship and Business Recovery from the COVID-19 crisis.
