Colin Stainer has been elected as the National President of the Institute of Plumbing and Heating Engineering (IPHE).
The new president was elected as head of the institute for plumbing and heating professionals at the organisation's AGM in Bristol.
Stainer’s year of office coincides with the IPHE being granted a Royal Charter.
In his acceptance speech at the AGM, Stainer said “I am especially proud to be president during our transition to a chartered body, a first for the construction industry.
“Our institute is becoming more pro-active and attracting considerable interest with government, media, the water industries and manufacturers.
'Our work in environmental issues is one we must not shy away from. Green plumbing is something we will be very much involved with for many years to come, together with the need to ensure there are competent people advising, designing and installing environmentally friendly products.”
The official launch of The Chartered Institute of Plumbing and Heating Engineering (CIPHE) will take place at the House of Commons on July 10.
Stainer said “At that time we will also be announcing a consumer campaign called 'Ask to See CIPHE'. We are trying to make consumers more aware when they are looking for a plumbing or heating installer to check to see if the installer is a member of the CIPHE'.
Stainer has been a member of the IPHE for 33 years. He is a Master Plumber and is a voluntary professional standards inspector for the institute. IPHE has 12,000 members.
