Colman is anchor for £50,000 dairy project
The Stoke-On-Trent manufacturer has supplied Arla Foods, producer of Anchor and Cravendale Purfiltre, with ventilation and ac equipment for the dairy's new raw milk, process and pasteurising rooms.

The vast dairy has a total floor space of 28,000m² and the capacity to fill over 345 bottles of milk per minute.

Colman worked closely with Kelly Taylor & Associates, the consulting engineers throughout the design and construction phases of the project who were key in specifying the necessary air distribution equipment. Colman also liased with sub-contractors N G Bailey to achieve the final installation.

The brief required the design of an efficient method of producing and maintaining indoor air quality that addressed environmental criteria without compromising performance and functionality. A displacement ventilation system was specified for the vast filling and bottling halls, where there are 10 lines in operation.

The contract worth in excess of £50,000 required a large number of stainless steel grilles and diffusers for general areas throughout the dairy.

The order included 10 specially designed REPUS stainless steel displacement units to supply high volumes of conditioned air into high hygiene areas.

'They deliver improved air quality and lower temperatures in occupied areas than traditional systems and provide a constant air distribution over the entire face area without risks of draughts', said a spokesman for Colman.

Arla Foods UK processes two billion litres of milk every year.
It has a 44% share of UK fresh milk and cream market.
