The second annual HVR Awards for Excellence ceremony saw well known industry names pitted against smaller companies for the prestige of winning an award in their sector.
ROLL OF HONOUR
Contractor of the Year – Blue Flame:
The judges found Blue Flame’s ability to create a thriving service and contracting business in a rural environment was particularly admirable. One judge said: “They’ve clearly got what it takes to be successful in a particularly challenging part of the country.”
Consultant of the Year – SI Sealy & Associates:
SI Sealy & Associates has worked on a wide range of projects across all market sectors including new build and refurbishment projects. In the past 12 months the company has seen its turnover rise almost 30 per cent, landed a host of contracts, expand into the Middle East and gained ISO 14001 accreditation.
Commercial Heating Product – Lochinvar’s HSV Thermal Store:
The HSV Thermal Store allows the integration of up to three heat sources which can be renewable or fossil based while also eliminating the risk of legionella by avoiding stored hot water. One judge said: “We need to be developing more products like this that aren’t just a bolted on extra, but a genuine innovation.”
Air Conditioning Product – Colman Moducel Fanwall Technology:
Fanwall units are designed to allow major improvements in footprint, reliability, energy efficiency, sound attenuation and operating costs. The company was commended for a strong concept and expert execution.
Commercial Ventilation Product – Lindab’s MBB plenum box:
The judges said that Lindab has packed a lot of features into a small unit that is designed to enable hvac engineers to design a flexible system with fewer dampers and silencers without compromising on sound or airflow characteristics.
Sustainable Project – Sanyo Air Conditioners, for Woodspring Priory, Weston-Super-Mare:
The judges were impressed by the simplicity and effectiveness of the project which reduced running costs and addressed environmental concerns in terms of reduced carbon emissions and no global warming HFCs. The project demonstrates the great potential of heat pumps to transform the economics and environmental impact of heating for buildings.
Sustainable Product – Kyle Electronic Design’s Eco-wand ComfoMeter:
Although it doesn’t save energy, this product uses a computer display to show building occupants where savings can be made and advises on steps to reduce energy usage without sacrificing comfort. Praised for its simplicity, creativity and effectiveness, the inexpensive instrument allows easy investigation of a building’s performance and will help educate the occupants about how to achieve effective energy management. The judges praised this clever piece of kit for its ease of use, usefulness and the contribution it could make to energy and cost savings.
