Sheffield based IMS Heat Pumps supplies ground and air source heat pumps for clients in the residential and light commercial sectors, offering a comprehensive design, installation and commissioning service, which aims to deliver optimum energy efficiency whether the building in question is new or an existing structure in need of a bespoke upgrade.
In the case of Startin Tractors at Twycross near Coventry, IMS was called upon by repeat client Cooper Construction, to provide a flexible heating system for the business’s new workshop and offices. The customised package encompassed a pair of 50kW Clade air source heat pumps, delivering a 45oC flow temperature via underfloor heating circuits set in the concrete floor slabs, with an ESBE CRC200 valve offering very accurate, outside temperature compensated control.
IMS Heat Pumps’ Operations Director, Lee Brown commented: “In our work a lot of the referrals come from architects and builders, with Cooper Construction being the client in this case creating new premises for Startin Tractors. The design was based on providing room conditions of 21oC in the offices, with the facility to heat the workshops to the same temperature, though some of the time they will be unheated. The factory has a 50kW design load with the offices being just 40kW. The client also wanted to keep the system controls very straightforward, so we designed it so that the ESBE valve takes care of it. Essentially, the three separate heating zones are all weather compensated: with Magna 3 Grundfos pumps measuring the temperature differential and working with the ESBE valve to ensure we are directing the right level of heat energy to each area and guaranteeing substantial energy savings will be achieved across the year.”
“We have been buying from ESBE for ten years or more now because of the high quality, the range of choice and the reliability. Plus, we get good technical support - in this instance we spoke to ESBE about the requirements and they specified the CRC200 valve to match. It was exactly the solution we needed and the project was commissioned in March of this year.”
Darren Myers, the UK & Ireland Sales Director for ESBE added: “We have built a reputation for supplying high quality products into the UK market over many years, with one of the key reasons our valves are so popular with heat pump suppliers is the fact they utilise the motor-on, motor-off principle which makes them far more able to cope with the pressures involved than conventional ball valves. Working with Secon Renewables as the specialist merchant in this case we have a very good working relationship with IMS which is helping our business grow and delivering good outcomes for the end users.”
